What is a floating dock?
A floating dock adjusts to fluctuating water conditions. The unique design of the float chambers traps air on the surface of the water for additional buoyancy. As the water levels change, the dock raises and lowers.
Can I reconfigure or move a Connect-A-Dock?
Yes, the Connect-A-Dock can be reconfigured, added to, and moved to another location. The unique connection system is very flexible, and you can reconfigure the same components into many different shapes. (i.e. T, F, L, swim platform, etc.) Different configurations may require additional float sections and/or connectors. These can be added at any time.
Does the dock need to be moved out of the water during different seasons?
Freezing temperatures will not harm the Connect-A-Dock; however, with shifting ice, we recommend removal for the winter months. See the Winterization Policy for additional details.
Does the dock come in other colors?
The Connect-A-Dock is gray. This color reflects sunlight and maintains a safe temperature when in contact with bare skin. This polyethylene dock has UV protection, and the color is permanent.
Can the dock be painted?
No, Connect-A-Doc does not recommend painting the dock. One advantage of this product is that it never needs painting.
How is the dock cleaned and maintained?
Docks can be cleaned with a garden hose and whisk broom. A mild detergent or biodegradable, non-abrasive cleaner can also be used. Get these products at your local automotive, Home and garden, or discount store.
Can the dock be used in salt water?
Yes, the Connect-A-Dock is resistant to oil, gas, and saltwater. In saltwater applications, Connect-A-Dock recommends using stainless steel components or non-corrosive materials to anchor the dock.
Is the surface slippery?
The top surface has a molded, slip-resistant wood grain texture to prevent slipping. Always use caution around the water for your safety.
How many people are needed for assembly?
One person can install float sections, but two or more are recommended. Of course, additional help makes lining your dock up with shore and anchoring easier. Family Backyard Stores offers optional installation and assembly services.
How long does it take to install the dock?
The installation process may vary depending on the size of the dock you are installing. The installation and assembly company will give you an estimated time frame for your specific project.
How big can you make the dock?
The Connect-A-Dock can be assembled as long and as wide as you wish. The 60” x 45” x 10” (152.4 cm x 114.3 cm x 25.4 cm) modular sections allow you to configure to almost any size or design. Connect-A-Dock recommends a minimum of 45″ (114.3 cm) wide for installation.
How much weight can each float section support?
Each Connect-A-Dock 1000 Series float section can support up to 690 lbs. (313 kg)
Each Connect-A-Dock 2000 Series float section can support up to 2500 lbs. (1133.98 kg)
Extra Flotation can be added to support additional weight.
A 1000 Series Extra Flotation will add 60 lbs. (27.22 kg) of buoyancy to a 1000 Series Float Section.
Use 2000 Series Extra Flotation to add 300 lbs (136.08 kg) of buoyancy and stability to your floating docks and where excessive weight is placed. Examples: Under heavy gangway or storage boxes.
How high out of the water is the dock?
Connect-A-Dock 1000 Series: The walking surface is typically 8″ (20.32 cm) above the water.
Connect-A-Dock 2000 Series: The walking surface is typically 17″ (43.18 cm) above the water.
